Spin MP3's like Vinyl!

PCDJ Scratch is the latest in what is sure to be a long line of VRM (Virtual RackMount) products, designed to run either as stand-alone applications or integrated into our PCDJ FX software.

Scratch was created after extensive research into the current offerings available to the modern DJ. Various concepts for a vinyl interface have been taken into consideration, with our goal being to improve upon existing solutions.
What is PCDJ Scratch?
Quite simply, this is the ultimate for any DJ - offering a unique and more tactile way of playing digital music files on your PC or Laptop, using any conventional set of turntables, a piece of specially coded vinyl and the PCDJ Scratch software. As the vinyl rotates, the MP3 plays. As you scratch the vinyl, the MP3 scratches.

With PCDJ Scratch, the conventional method of mixing analog music on vinyl can be used to mix digital music files on a PC. A vinyl DJ can enjoy the full touch and feel of vinyl - but lose the weight of the vinyl and record crates at the same time! The PCDJ record case offers full music organization to load, search, sort your whole digital music collection. It's right there at your fingertips.

Stand Alone or Plugin
PCDJ Scratch offers dual functionality, working as either a self-contained product or as a VRM plugin for PCDJ FX. The stand-alone version offers the power and flexibility of the PCDJ FX record case. The user will be able to sort, organize, search and create waitlists, and rip music in the same way as somebody mixing with an entirely digital setup.

Please note: Scratch is only being shipped as a standalone version at this time. A plugin version will follow at a later date.

Scratch will also act as a VRM plugin for existing owners of FX. It appears in the program as 2 additional media players that can be used in conjunction with the two standard digital players. So, for those DJ's who still love the feel of vinyl under their fingertips, PCDJ Scratch will bridge the gap.

WAX to MP3
The vinyl technology has been designed with new levels of analog to digital conversion with unprecedented reliability. Scratch is unlike other systems that employ "timecode" on vinyl, as our records contain specially modulated physical location stamps. As the needle traces the groove, PCDJ Scratch listens to the sound coming from the turntable and can tell instantly the physical position of the needle on the surface of the record.

These multiple channel location stamps make sure the communication between the vinyl and the PC is extremely accurate. This method also adds a failsafe against your special vinyls wearing out!

Special Features
Mute Reverse: This allows the DJ to always mute the playback of the audio file while the record is being pulled back. When scratching over a beat, extremely fast "Crab" and other similar scratches are possible without even using a Crossfader!

Mute By Velocity: This allows the DJ to always mute the playback of the audio file while the record is below a configurable velocity. This can tighten up your scratch to make it sound much more clean and distinct.

PCDJ Scratch Modes
Velocity Mode: In this mode, the software only calculates the record's speed and direction of rotation. So if you're controlling t.he playback of an audio track in relative mode, you don't have to worry about skipping - the sound simply picks up again where it left off if the stylus moves.

Position Mode: This provides the most realistic "virtual vinyl" experience. If you are using Scratch to control the playback of an audio track, when you pick up the needle and move it the audio track you are playing will cue to the new position.

Latency
There are approximately 155 totally unique physical position stamps per rotation of the record. To give you an idea of the latency, this means that PCDJ Scratch software reads a new physical position stamp every 12 milliseconds when the record is played at 33-1/3 rpm.
